The 6 career fire fighters, of the International Association of Fire fighters - Local 2102, work a 24 hour on, 48 hour off, shift. Corry has two fire stations with one duty driver working each station. The driver at fire station #1 works in a combined police/fire department dispatch center. He is responsible to receive and dispatch fire and ambulance emergency calls, while the driver at station #2, as soon as he gets the information, starts his response. After alerting the volunteers, the Station 1 driver responds to the emergency. 95% of the time the engine from Station 2 is the attack engine.The driver at Corry Station 2 is responsible for fire alarm box maintenance, painting fire hydrants, and doing inspections The operation of the engines and ladder truck are the sole responsibility of the career fire fighters.The driver/ dispatcher working in the "Comm center" also receives emergency fire and ambulance calls and dispatches for four local volunteer fire departments,(Columbus Volunteer Fire Department, Elgin Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department, Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department, and Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department.) |
